The Old Forge Holiday Cottage
The cottage, located a stones throw from Hodge Close Quarry, is built in green slate and sleeps 4 in two bedrooms. In addition there’s an inflatable mattress in the conservatory which can accommodate an additional 2 children.
There is a large lounge with open roof beams and log burner. Modern kitchen and bathroom with separate shower and a large conservatory with family sized dining table which can seat 8.
The cottage was originally a quarry building, several hundred years old but renovated and extended later as a result of an ‘intervention’ by Beatrice Potter of Peter Rabbit and Squirrel Nutkin fame.
Outside, the garden, beautiful in Spring with the rhododendron and azalea blossom has picnic tables with different views over the valley and a patio with further table and benches. The garden also has an elevated octagonal, cedar wood summerhouse with stunning views towards Wetherlam fell.
The garden attracts woodpeckers, nuthatch, bullfinch, longtail, coal, great and blue tits and in Spring you can hear the cuckoo across the valley.
The cottage has a telephone land line for free local calls and wifi broadband.
There is a shed for the safe storage of bikes and the cottage is equipped with maps and a complete set of Wainwright’s guides to the Lakeland fells.
Pets: Your pets of course are welcome (with their well behaved owners) but please don’t allow them on the beds or the furniture. Poo bags can be put in the black wheely bin outside
